Thanks for the invitation to join the group.  My interest is family genealogy.  My ancestors were William Cooper (1784-1838) and wife Mary  Elizabeth Wardle Cooper(1789-1869) both buried at the Meerbrook churchyard.  They lived at Meadows farm.  Their daughter, Dinah Cooper, married Daniel Brassington, my great grandparents.  Daniel and Dinah's son, Thomas Brassington came to the US and married and had his family in Michigan here.  I have done family research for many enjoyable years and would be pleased to hear from anyone who could tell me more about the area, the farms, the church, and anything else of interest about Meerbrook.  I will try to put together a lineage of what I know for sure about these ancetors and some things I have made some guesses about.  Betty Brassington

Hi Betty
I've been watching your thread to see if you get any responses.  There are still Brassingtons in the wider area but we'll ask for more details from the local group.

Yes I still keep my open for posts in this forum. Hoping to connect with descendants of Matthew Brown (1797-1883) of Wildboarclough who lived the greater part of his life at Wetwood. My wife Susan and I visited Meerbrook/Leekfrith in 2011, and hope to get back some day. It was a wonderful trip, we stayed at a bed and breakfast in HenCloud and were treated very well. To top it off, thanks to the courage and insistance of my distant relative Geoff Lewis (2nd cousin once removed), we stopped in at Wetwood farm and the current owner (Mrs. Hine??- I believe) treated us to tea and cookies and a tour through the house. Quite a privilege to be in the same dwelling my ancestor "Matthew Brown" occupied in the 1841 census. Susan and I are living abroad right now in the UAE, but do hope to get back to Staffordshire either as trip from here in Abu Dhabi or once we resettle back in Canada. Cheers!

I am looking for information on the Cooper's who lived at the Meadows farm , Leekfrith in the 17th ,18th and 19th century.

* Did they own the farm ?
* How far back in time did they farm the at Meadows?
* Why did they lose the farm?
* Where did the Cooper family come from?

Regards Howard Cooper
