I am interested in any information on the Turner family of Meerbrook - 3 successive generations of whom held the living of Meerbrook for 120 years, from 1745 - 1863. Beginning with Rev. Daniel Turner 1709 - 1789, his son Rev. James Turner 1746 - 1828, grandson  Rev. James Turner b. 1797 Leekfrith - 1863 Meerbrook.  Last James married Elizabeth Cruso, especially interested in connections with Cruso family.   Lots of other family connections in Leekfrith area, have large family tree to share.

Hello, I personally do not know any Crusos in the area but I will ask around.

Just been checking for the surname Cruso but haven't found any on the burial records yet.  There is a Cruso Street in Leek though.

The burial records we have are not complete yet. We have only about a third of the toal from 1813 to 1958. We hope to complete them as a project over the coming winter.

Thank you.
I hope you follow our site as we add to it whenever interesting facts have been found.  As we are focussing on the school at the moment  the Turner's names may crop up in connection with it as the vicars had a lot of influence and were generally the chair of the managers of the school.

Daniel Turner (1709-1789) is son of James & Mary Turner of Bradnop.  Mary's identity is not certain, as there is quite a gap in baptismal events, but is probably Mary Goodwin who m. James Turner ?1687.  It looks as if most of his descendants named James or Daniel was found a place locally in the C of E, sometimes without a university education. As they were contemporaneous as well, it can be confusing.

The dates of baptisms can only ever be a guide as they can sometimes be a long time after the birth.

Just to let you know that a James Turner was a master at Leek Grammar School, on Clerk Bank from 1822-1826.
